Description

Five wine shaped glass shades, some clear and some smoke, hang together beneath a round satin nickel fitting that measures 45cm across. The shapes are tall and tapered, narrow at the neck and widening towards the mouth, so light gathers in the glass before it spills downwards. Each shade takes an E27 lamp, and the drop is adjustable, which lets you sit the cluster high and close to the ceiling or send it well down over a table.

Over a dining table is where it does its best work, the heads spreading light along the length rather than dropping it all in one spot. It also suits a stairwell or a tall hallway, where the longer drop earns its keep. We would fit clear filament lamps here, since the glass is meant to be looked through and a plain white envelope tends to look flat behind it. Dimming is possible with dimmable lamps and a matching dimmer, neither of which is supplied. Keep it to dry rooms indoors, away from bathroom zones and anywhere open to the weather.

The satin nickel is soft and low in shine, which keeps the metalwork quiet and lets the two glass tones carry the interest. Clear and smoke glass shows fingerprints, so a barely damp cloth followed by a dry buff will keep it bright; turn the power off and give the glass time to cool before you start. It carries a one year warranty. The same wine shade shape appears on the small single light flush fittings in the Lori range, in antique gold with opal glass and in polished chrome with amber, so there is a matching option for a lower room or a landing. Lamps are not included.

Can it be dimmed?
