Description

Four amber shades hang from a slender polished chrome bar, each cut to a diamond kite shape and finished with a chrome collar. The bar is narrow front to back, so the run reads as a line of light rather than a bulk of metal, and at 1.2m end to end it suits a long table. Each pendant drops on its own suspension and can be set high or low, level or staggered. We would reach for a clear LED E27 lamp so the amber keeps its colour.

It is at its best over a dining table, a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, where the light needs to follow the shape of the surface below. The adjustable suspension gives plenty to work with, from a tight drop under a low ceiling to a long hang in a room with height. It will dim with compatible lamps and a matching dimmer, neither of which comes with the fitting. It needs an earthed supply, and it is meant for dry rooms indoors: a hall, a landing or a study rather than a bathroom or a porch.

The frame is metal throughout, plated and polished bright, and the shades pair amber with a chrome sheen. Dust gathers on the upper faces of the shades first, so a lambswool duster now and then keeps them clear; for fingermarks on the chrome, a barely damp cloth with the power off and the lamps cold, dried straight away. It carries a one year warranty. The Lori range continues in small round flush fittings for lower ceilings, including a polished chrome one with amber shades. Lamps are not included.

How should the chrome be cleaned?

Turn the power off at the wall and let the lamps cool, dust with a soft cloth, then lift any marks with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid cream cleaners and abrasive pads.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. It is rated for dry interior rooms only, so keep it to dining rooms, kitchens, halls and landings.
