Description

Three opal shades hang from a slim antique gold bar, each drawn into the tapering wine shape that gives the design its name. The bar runs 850mm end to end, so the fitting reads as a line rather than a cluster, and the drop can be adjusted across a wide range to suit the room. The opal softens the lamp behind it, spreading light gently rather than throwing it in one direction.

It works well over a kitchen island or a narrow dining table, where the light is shared along the length instead of pooling in the middle. We also like it above a long hall console, with the outer shades set a touch lower than the centre one for a little movement. Each lampholder takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W, and we would choose a warm white LED with a shape that sits neatly inside the shade. Dimming is possible with a compatible lamp and dimmer switch, neither of which comes with the fitting.

The metalwork wears an antique gold finish, a softer and slightly aged tone that keeps the warmth of brass without the bright shine. To clean, switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then wipe the shades with a barely damp cloth and dry them; the gold asks for no more than a light dusting. Keep it to dry rooms inside the house, away from bathroom zones and anywhere it may meet damp air. It carries a one year warranty. The same wine shade turns up elsewhere in the Lori range on a single light flush fitting, and there are polished chrome versions of that fitting if gold is not right for the room. Lamps are not included.
