Lori 3 Light Trapezium Clear Flush Light 40cm - Satin Nickel

Three clear shades, each slim and curved into a soft trapezium, sit around a round satin nickel plate that holds them close under the ceiling. At 40cm across it reads as a low, wide disc rather than anything that drops into the room, and because the shades are clear the light spreads outward as well as down. Each shade takes an E27 lamp, and the lamp you choose does a great deal to set the character here.

We would put this in a hall, on a landing, or in a bedroom where a pendant would hang too low and be in the way. It suits older houses with modest ceiling heights, and equally a newer room where a plain fitting needs replacing with something better mannered. A small kitchen or a utility takes it well too, since the light is spread across the fitting rather than pooled in one spot. Dimming is possible where suitable lamps and a compatible dimmer are used.

The metalwork wears a satin nickel finish, a soft grey sheen that stays quieter than polished chrome and sits happily alongside brushed ironmongery. To keep it right, switch off at the wall and let the lamps go cold, then take the clear shades with a lint-free cloth and the nickel with a dry one; skip abrasives, and never spray anything directly at the fitting. It is meant for dry rooms indoors, away from splashes and steam, and it carries a one year warranty. What lamps does it take, and how powerful can they be?

It takes three E27 lamps of up to 20W each. LED lamps are the sensible choice, and because the shades are clear the shape of the lamp will be on show, so pick one you are happy to look at.

How far does it sit below the ceiling?

The body is 90mm deep, so it stays tight to the ceiling. That is what makes it useful in halls, landings and rooms where headroom is tight.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, provided you fit dimmable lamps and pair them with a compatible dimmer switch. No dimmer is supplied with the fitting.

How wide is it, and how heavy?

It measures 400mm in diameter and weighs 3.7kg.

How should the clear shades be cleaned?

Isolate the power, let the lamps cool, then wipe the shades with a soft lint-free cloth. Any smears can be lifted with a little glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than sprayed at the fitting.

Is it suitable for a bathroom?

No. This one is intended for dry indoor rooms only, so keep it to halls, bedrooms, kitchens and living spaces.
