Description

Three tinted glass shades hang from a round antique gold ceiling plate, each shaped like an upturned wine glass with a slim stem and a wide, flaring bowl. The glass runs amber, clear and smoke, so each pendant reads a little differently as light passes through it. Unlit, those tints still hold their colour against a pale ceiling. The plate measures 40cm across, and the suspensions are adjustable, so the shades can sit level in a row or be staggered to follow the line of a table.

It suits a dining table best, where the shades can hang low enough to be read at eye level, though it works just as well over a kitchen island or in a hall with height to spare. We would choose clear filament lamps here so the shape of the glass is not lost, up to 20W apiece. It will dim too, given lamps that dim and a compatible dimmer on the circuit, which is not supplied with the fitting. It is a good match for a room already carrying warm metals, brass handles or a gold-framed mirror.

Glass and metal throughout, with the antique gold carried across the plate and the suspension. Lift dust from the shades with a dry microfibre cloth, and when they are cool, take any kitchen film off with a barely damp cloth and dry straight away; the gold asks for nothing beyond a dry buff, never a cream cleaner. Keep it to indoor rooms away from steam and splashing. It carries a one year warranty.
