Description

Three slim curved trapezium shades hang from a round ceiling plate, smoked and washed with a chrome tint so a lit lamp reads as a soft glow rather than a hard point. The plate and the suspensions are polished chrome, bright enough to catch daylight from a window and hold it. At 40cm across, the plate gathers the drops into a tidy cluster rather than stringing them out in a row. The shades are slim rather than wide, so the cluster feels light for its size and does not crowd a table setting.

The drops are adjustable, so we set them level over a kitchen island or stagger them slightly above a round dining table. It suits a dining room, a hallway with height, or a landing where a smaller fitting would look mean. We reach for it in rooms that already have some glass and metal in play, near a mirror or a chrome tap, where the smoked shades keep the brightness in check. It takes E27 lamps and will dim with compatible lamps and a separate dimmer, neither of which is supplied.

Polished chrome holds its shine best when it is kept dry, so we wipe ours with a barely damp cloth and dry it off straight away, keeping sprays away from the shades so the smoked tint stays even. Let everything cool before handling, and give the inside of each shade an occasional dust too, since a filmed shade dulls the light more than a smudged one. It carries a one year warranty. The trapezium shade shape runs through the wider Lori range, where the flush fittings offer it in amber, clear and chrome as well, in polished chrome or antique gold. Lamps are not included.
