Description

Three opal ribbed tubular shades sit in a row along a slim antique gold bar, so the light arrives as a soft line rather than one bright point. The bar runs 850mm end to end, which reads as a long horizontal above a table or worktop. Each shade has its own E27 lamp position, and the suspension is adjustable, letting the shades hang tight under the ceiling or drop well down into the room.

It suits a kitchen island, a breakfast bar or a rectangular dining table, where the length of the bar answers the length of the surface below. The ribbing breaks up the light and keeps glare down at eye level, which helps when people are seated beneath it. We reach for a linear pendant like this where a scattering of separate pendants would look busy or mean fussing over spacing. It will dim if you pair suitable lamps with a compatible dimmer, though neither comes with the fitting.

The antique gold has a warm, slightly softened tone that works with brass taps, oak and deeper paint colours, while the opal shades stop the whole thing feeling heavy. Keep it indoors and away from damp, and give the shades and bar an occasional going over with a dry duster once the power is off and the lamps have cooled; sprays and creams will only dull the finish. Each lamp position takes up to 20W. It carries a one year warranty.
