Description
This wooden certificate keepsake box gives a little one's first certificates a proper home, with a parade of London soldiers marching along its side. The long, rectangular box has a white body printed with a row of guardsmen in tall black bearskins, red tunics and blue trousers, led by one riding a brown horse. The lid is a bright blue, with fine white pinstripes running round its edge and a white top printed with the words My Certificate in blue lettering, alongside a red double-decker bus, a black cab, an orange clock tower and a small tree. It measures 26.6cm long, 7.2cm across and 8.2cm tall.
Its long, narrow shape suits a certificate kept rolled, so the papers that mark those early milestones stay together in one place. We think it makes a lovely keepsake for a baby or toddler up to three years old, kept by the grown-ups and filled over the first few years. It sits neatly on a nursery shelf, a chest of drawers or a bookcase, and the marching soldiers and red bus bring a cheerful touch of London to a child's room. It is a piece for their room rather than a toy, so it is best kept on a high shelf and opened by an adult.
The box is made of wood, and the lid lifts on two small hinges at the back to show a plain pale interior, with the underside of the lid painted the same bright blue. With the lid closed, whatever is inside stays tidy and out of the dust. To keep the print looking fresh, dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from damp. As a gift, it is ready to fill: tuck a certificate inside with a note for the future, and it becomes something to hand back to them when they are grown.
