Description

A chest of drawers, 101cm tall, in blue. At 42cm wide it is about the width of a laptop. A chest is bought for the drawers and lived with for the top, which is nearly always the surface a lamp, a tray and everything from a pocket ends up on.

Cool tones settle beside grey, blue and black without any effort. Against a warm timber they need something to mediate, or the two simply sit next to each other. Zinc left outdoors loses its shine within a season and then stays as it is, which is either the appeal or the reason to keep it inside. Pine is a softwood, so it marks more readily than oak or beech — and takes a paint or a wash far better, because the grain drinks it in. Marks in pine read as age rather than damage. 5 drawers. Everything loosens with use. A yearly check of the fixings takes a minute and is the difference between a piece that stays square and one that develops a lean it never loses. Count the drawers against what goes in them rather than against the price: deep drawers suit jumpers and bedding, shallow ones suit everything that gets lost in a deep drawer. It needs nothing beyond dusting, and a damp cloth on the finish rather than anything solvent.
