Description

A chest of drawers, 72cm tall, in blue. At 80cm it is about as wide as a standard interior door. Allow the drawer's own depth again in front of it as clear floor, or the bottom drawer opens onto the bed frame and never gets used properly.

A cool colour recedes: it makes a piece read as further away and a room as larger, which is why cool tones suit small spaces better than their reputation for coldness suggests. Zinc weathers to a soft grey patina rather than rusting, and that dull, chalky surface is the finish people buy it for. It is a soft metal and dents rather than cracks. Pine is a softwood, so it marks more readily than oak or beech — and takes a paint or a wash far better, because the grain drinks it in. Marks in pine read as age rather than damage. 4 drawers. 6 carrying handles.

An anti-tip wall strap is included, and on a tall piece it should be used.

Everything loosens with use. A yearly check of the fixings takes a minute and is the difference between a piece that stays square and one that develops a lean it never loses. Check how the drawers run and whether they stop. A drawer that pulls all the way out is a drawer that comes out on the floor eventually, and a soft stop is what prevents it. Dusting is all it asks for, with a damp cloth on the finish and nothing solvent or abrasive.
