The Littleton is a double coat rack in brass: a slim back plate with pointed ends and two hooks, one set near each end. Each hook stands off the plate on a squared block and curves round to a rounded knob, a shape that holds a coat collar, a scarf or a bag strap neatly. The rack is 3.6cm tall, 17.5cm wide and 5cm deep, so it sits close to the wall and stays out of the way of passing shoulders. We sell it in five finishes: Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Antique Silver, Natural Brass and Satin Brass.

Two hooks suit the places where coats and bags pile up: a hallway by the front door, the back of a bedroom door, a landing or a study. At 17.5cm wide it fits the narrow stretch of wall beside a door frame, and more than one hung in a line gives a busy household more room to hang things. Choose the finish to sit with the metalwork already in the room, such as door handles, light switches or a brass light fitting, whether that is Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Natural Brass, Antique Brass or Antique Silver.

The Littleton is made in Ireland from brass, with the hooks set onto the plate and a screw fixing at each end that holds it flat to the wall. Brass is a hard-wearing metal for something handled every day. The maker guarantees the fittings it makes for five years from the date of purchase. When you choose a spot, leave a little space either side of the rack so coats hang clear of the door frame and any light switch, and set it at a height everyone in the house can reach.
