Description

This layered wooden plaque carries a row of three little houses drawn in fine grey lines, with the words "LOVE grows BEST in LITTLE houses" lettered beneath them. Three small hearts drift up above the largest house, and one cottage has a climbing sprig beside its door, so the whole piece feels gentle and homely rather than busy. The design sits on a soft white panel, layered over a natural wood board that shows a slim border all the way round, which gives the plaque a little depth and a neat framed look. It is rectangular and measures 14.7cm by 12.3cm across its face and 2cm deep, a size that suits a shelf or a bedside table without taking over.

We think it makes a lovely new home gift, a warm way to welcome someone over the threshold of their first flat, a cosy cottage or a fresh start somewhere smaller. A strut on the back folds out so the plaque stands up by itself on a mantelpiece, a windowsill, a hallway table or a kitchen shelf, and it needs no nails or wall fixings at all. Its quiet colours of grey, white and natural wood sit happily alongside most schemes, from a pale Scandinavian look to a country kitchen dresser. Tucked among a few favourite pieces or standing alone by the front door, it says something kind about home every time someone passes it.

The plaque is made from wood, with the printed panel set onto the board and a plain brown back behind. To keep it looking fresh, dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth, and keep it away from damp and direct heat as you would any wooden piece. For a thoughtful housewarming present, pair it with a card and a bunch of flowers, or simply wrap it in tissue and let those six words do the talking.
