Description
This little round plaque brings a watercolour robin to the tree. He stands in deep snow beneath a sprig of holly, with the words LITTLE CHRISTMAS ROBIN printed beside him. Its deep red frame takes the outline of a classic bauble. A cap at the top carries a white banner tab, and a green ribbon loops through a ring above it for hanging. The centre is a clear round window, and inside it a drift of tiny white snowballs gathers at the foot of the scene, so the robin seems to stand in a fresh fall of snow. It measures 12cm across and 2.2cm deep, a size that sits comfortably among the branches without crowding them.
We see it first on the Christmas tree, where the red frame stands out against green branches and the robin catches the eye of anyone passing. It works just as well away from the tree. Hang it from a door handle, a window catch, a dresser knob or a wreath in the hall, or tie it along a stair garland. The window is clear on both faces, so the robin and the printed words can be seen from behind too, in reverse. It still looks right when it turns on its ribbon. It makes a thoughtful Christmas gift on its own, and a sweet finishing touch tied onto a wrapped present.
The frame is a flat, smooth disc in a rich red finish, with the window set into its centre. Care is simple: dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water. Between seasons, wrap it in tissue and store it flat so the ribbon stays neat. Come December, hang it at eye level near the front of the tree, where the robin and his words can be read up close.
