Description
The Leda is an 810mm table lamp built around a tapered cream patina column that rises from a gold leaf plinth on four claw feet, interrupted mid-column by a sculptural gold leaf octopus with eight curving tentacles wrapped around the body. The octopus sits between silver leaf sphere accents at the neck and base of the column, with a matching tapered cream shade above and a spherical gold leaf finial at the apex.
Designed for side tables, console tables and bedside positions where decorative impact matters as much as task light, the Leda provides ambient illumination through the fabric shade while the octopus detail serves as the visual anchor. The 200mm footprint fits standard side-table surfaces without dominating the space, and the 810mm height positions the shade at typical armchair or bed-height reading level. The lamp takes a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately), giving flexibility in light temperature and brightness.
The cream patina finish on the column and shade gives a soft, aged appearance that reads as off-white with subtle tonal variation, while the gold leaf on the octopus, plinth and feet provides contrast without overwhelming the neutral base. The silver leaf spheres at the top and bottom of the column act as transition points between the warm gold and cool cream tones. The claw feet raise the plinth approximately 40mm off the table surface, creating clearance beneath the lamp and adding to the sculptural presence.
The octopus is hand-applied gold leaf over a metal armature, so the exact positioning of the tentacles and the tonal variation in the gold finish differ between individual lamps. This is characteristic of hand-finished decorative metalwork, not a manufacturing defect. The lamp pairs well with classical, eclectic and traditional interiors where decorative detail is valued, and works particularly well in spaces with warm wood tones, brass accents or other animal-motif decorative objects.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Leda take?
The lamp takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for reading and ambient light.
Is the octopus detail fragile?
The octopus is metal with a gold leaf finish, so the tentacles have some structural rigidity but should not be bent or used as a handle when moving the lamp. The gold leaf itself is a surface finish that can be marked by abrasion, so handle the lamp by the base or column when repositioning.
Does the gold leaf vary between lamps?
Yes. Each octopus is hand-applied with gold leaf over a metal armature, so the exact positioning of the tentacles and the tonal variation in the gold finish differ slightly between individual lamps. This is characteristic of hand-finished decorative metalwork.
Can the shade be replaced?
The shade is a matching tapered fabric shade specific to the Leda design. Replacement shades may be available directly from Flambeau or through Niori — contact us for availability.
