How does the photocell sensor work?

The integrated photocell measures ambient light levels. When daylight drops below a set threshold (typically around dusk), the sensor switches the LED on automatically. At dawn, when light levels rise, the sensor switches the LED off. No timers or programming are needed.

Can the photocell be overridden?

Yes. A manual override switch on the base of the unit allows the photocell to be bypassed, forcing the light to remain on regardless of ambient light levels. This is useful during decorating, outdoor events, or when constant lighting is temporarily required.

Is it suitable for fully exposed positions?

The IP54 rating protects against dust and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for positions under eaves, canopies or open walls. It is not fully weatherproof against driving rain or submersion, so mounting under a porch or similar shelter extends component life.
