Description

The Laselle is a backless bar stool made from 100% solid ash wood. The colour is Ash wood, with a natural ash finish. The seat is dished rather than flat and dips at the centre of its front edge, and the stool stands on four splayed legs braced by stretchers. The 70cm in the name is the overall height; the number to plan around is the 64cm seat height. The seat measures 40 x 30cm, and the legs angle out beyond it, so the stool is 42cm wide and 37cm deep overall: the floor space to allow for each one.

It is made for the kitchen island or breakfast bar, and its minimalist lines sit well in a modern kitchen. Before you order, measure from the floor to the underside of your worktop and take away the 64cm seat height: what remains is the room your legs will have, so a small result means a cramped fit. If you already own a stool with a similar seat height, trying it at your counter is the quickest way to check. With no backrest to catch on the worktop edge, the Laselle can tuck under an overhang when not in use, as long as the underside of the worktop sits above its 70cm overall height.

Ash is a hardwood with an open, pronounced grain, and it has long been chosen for tool handles and chair making because it is strong and copes well with knocks. As with any solid timber, grain and tone vary from piece to piece, so no two stools will look exactly alike. The Laselle is made in Vietnam, needs no assembly and is sold singly, so you can buy as many as your island needs. It sits most happily in a Scandinavian-inspired kitchen, where simple surroundings let the natural ash and the plain, dished seat carry the look.
