Description

Small, round and finished in white, this is a recessed spotlight with a funnel interior set at a tilt, so light leaves the fitting on the slant rather than dropping straight down. The visible face measures 93mm across, which keeps it quiet on a plain ceiling. It takes a GU10 lamp and the lampholder is already fitted, so the lamp is the only part you need to add, up to 12W. Dimming is possible as long as the lamp you buy is a dimmable one and there is a dimmer on the circuit.

That tilt earns its keep close to walls. Aimed at a run of shelves, a tall cupboard or a picture, it puts light where you actually want to look rather than on the floor in front of it, and it takes the flatness out of a kitchen lit only by straight downlights. We reach for these in hallways, over worktops and along the edge of a landing, often alongside the centred version so the same line of fittings does two jobs. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; anywhere damp or exposed wants a sealed fitting instead.

The body is light in the hand and double insulated, and the white finish is plain and unfussy, sitting flat against a white ceiling once the lamp is in. A dry cloth round the rim now and then is all the upkeep it asks; turn the power off and let the lamp go cold before you touch it. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the same round funnel in black, square versions in both colours, and a centred funnel where you want the light aimed straight down instead. Lamps are not included.

A GU10 LED reflector of 50mm diameter is the one to go for, rated at no more than 12W. The lampholder comes fitted, so you only need the lamp.
