Description

A plain round downlight finished in matt white, made for a 95mm cut-out and slim in body so it sits tight to the ceiling line. It takes a GU10 lamp of up to 12W and is not dimmable, so an ordinary wall switch is all it asks for. The trim is narrow and quiet, the kind of ring that vanishes into a painted ceiling. We reach for it when a room wants light spread across several points rather than gathered in the middle of the ceiling.

Kitchens are the obvious home, particularly over worktops and along a run of units, and it does the same steady job in a hallway, on a landing or in a study where a pendant would be in the way. It is small enough to line up in numbers without the ceiling looking busy. Choose a warm white LED reflector lamp for living rooms and bedrooms, or something cooler where you are chopping and reading labels. We would keep this one to rooms that stay dry, and pick a sealed fitting instead for a shower area or above a bath.

The body is double insulated, and the matt white finish is easy to live with because it reads as ceiling rather than hardware. Dust comes away with a dry cloth once the power is off; where cooking grease has settled on the trim, a cloth wrung out in warm soapy water sorts it, and nothing wetter is needed. It carries a one year warranty. We also stock a smaller round version in the same white for tighter ceiling runs and narrower spaces, and the two sit together happily in one house. Lamps are not included.
