Description

A bell silhouette in clear crystal, warmed with French gold, this is a dressing for a fitting rather than a light in its own right, so it borrows its glow from whatever it sits on. At 19cm across and 24cm tall it stays neat, and the crystal breaks light into a scatter of small bright points instead of the flat wash a fabric shade gives.

We keep shades like this for the jobs where fabric would go quiet: a small pendant over a hall table, a bedside light that wants a little sparkle in the evening, or a table lamp on a sideboard in a dining room. It works on a suspended fitting and on a lamp base alike, so a shade bought for a bedroom can move to a hall later. It suits period rooms and plainer modern ones equally. A warm white lamp in the host fitting flatters the gold, and it is worth having the host on a dimmer if the room is used late.

The crystal is a select grade, and the French gold finish gives the clear glass something warmer to sit against. Dust settles between the crystals, so a soft dry brush or a feather duster does more good here than a cloth; on the gold, wipe with a lightly damp cloth and dry it straight away, keeping sprays and cream cleaners away from both. It carries a one year warranty. We stock the same bell in antique brass, and the range runs to ball, cone, cylinder and drum if you would rather repeat a shape through a room.
