Description
The Knightsbridge T8BLED16EM1 is a 1790mm (6ft) single-tube LED batten delivering 3450 lumens at 4000K cool white with integrated 3-hour emergency lighting. The fitting houses a dedicated 30W LED light source behind an opal polycarbonate diffuser, replacing traditional T8 fluorescent battens without requiring separate tubes or ballasts.
Designed for commercial, industrial and multi-occupancy residential installations where emergency egress lighting is required by UK Building Regulations, the batten operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched emergency modes. In emergency mode the fitting provides 285 lumens for three hours on battery backup, meeting BS 5266 requirements for escape route illumination. Normal operation delivers 3450 lumens across a 120-degree beam angle, suitable for corridor runs, stairwells, plant rooms and service areas.
The pressed steel housing in white powder coat measures 1790mm × 60mm × 85mm projection and mounts to ceiling or wall via two end brackets. The opal polycarbonate diffuser clips into the housing without tools, giving access to the internal driver and emergency module for maintenance. The fitting carries an IP20 rating for dry interior use and a Class I earth connection via a terminal block inside the housing. The LED light source is rated to 50,000 hours L70B50 lifespan, reducing maintenance cycles compared to fluorescent equivalents.
The constant current LED driver operates on 230V 50Hz mains with a CRI >80 colour rendering index, making the cool white 4000K output suitable for task lighting in technical and service environments. The emergency battery module charges continuously during mains operation and switches to battery power automatically on mains failure, requiring no manual intervention.

Product Specification Sheet
Frequently Asked
What is the difference between maintained and non-maintained emergency modes?
In maintained mode, the fitting remains lit during normal mains operation and switches to battery power on mains failure. In non-maintained mode, the fitting only illuminates when mains power is lost. Switched mode allows the fitting to be turned off during normal operation but still provides emergency lighting on power failure. The mode is selected during installation via internal wiring configuration.
How long does the emergency battery last?
The integrated battery provides 3 hours of emergency illumination at 285 lumens when fully charged. The battery charges continuously during mains operation. Battery lifespan is typically 3-4 years depending on usage patterns and discharge cycles, and the battery module can be replaced without replacing the entire fitting.
Can this batten be mounted on walls as well as ceilings?
Yes. The two end brackets allow the batten to be fixed to either ceiling or wall surfaces using appropriate fixings for the substrate. Ensure the diffuser faces into the space being illuminated and that the emergency battery can charge and discharge in the mounted orientation.
Does this fitting comply with BS 5266 for emergency lighting?
Yes. When installed and configured correctly, the 3-hour 285 lumen emergency output meets BS 5266 requirements for escape route illumination in most commercial and residential applications. Consult the product specification sheet and a qualified emergency lighting designer to confirm suitability for your specific installation.
