Description
The Knightsbridge BATSCWMST5 is a 5ft LED batten with adjustable wattage (22W or 41W) and selectable colour temperature (3000K, 4000K or 5700K), integrated microwave presence detection and self-test emergency function. Built from pressed steel and polycarbonate with an opal diffuser, the batten delivers up to 6,040 lumens at 41W and 4000K with an efficacy of 160 lumens per watt.
Designed as a direct replacement for twin 5ft fluorescent fittings in commercial, industrial and utility spaces, the batten fits standard 600mm fixing centres and BESA boxes. The microwave presence sensor allows the batten to switch on when movement is detected and turn off after a set delay, reducing energy use in corridors, stairwells, storage areas and car parks. The self-test emergency mode runs automatic function and duration tests on the internal battery, providing maintained, non-maintained or switched emergency lighting without external test equipment.
The hinged gear tray and push-fit loop-in loop-out terminals allow single-step installation without removing the diffuser or accessing hard-to-reach fixings. Rear and end conduit entry points suit most existing wiring routes when retrofitting over fluorescent battens. The white powder-coated steel housing and opal polycarbonate diffuser give even light distribution across the 145-degree beam angle, suitable for general area lighting in spaces with ceiling heights between 2.5m and 4m.
The adjustable wattage setting allows the same batten to be configured for lower energy use (22W) in smaller rooms or higher output (41W) in larger spaces, warehouse aisles or areas requiring brighter task lighting. The CCT switch allows warm white (3000K) for hospitality and residential applications, neutral white (4000K) for offices and retail, or cool white (5700K) for clean rooms and healthcare. The L70B50 rating of 60,000 hours equates to approximately 13 years at 12 hours per day operation before the LED output drops to 70% of initial lumens.

Frequently Asked
How is the wattage and CCT adjusted?
The batten has DIP switches accessible via the hinged gear tray. Wattage is set to either 22W or 41W, and colour temperature is selected between 3000K (warm white), 4000K (neutral white) or 5700K (cool white). Settings are configured during installation before the diffuser is closed.
What does the microwave sensor detect?
The integrated microwave presence detector senses movement through non-metallic materials, including plasterboard and timber. Detection range and hold time are adjustable via the settings switches. This allows the batten to switch on when someone enters a corridor or stairwell and turn off after a set delay when the space is vacated.
How does the self-test emergency function work?
The self-test feature runs automatic functional and duration tests on the internal emergency battery at set intervals, as required by BS 5266 and BS EN 50172. Test results are indicated via an LED on the fitting. The emergency mode can be set to maintained (always lit), non-maintained (lights only during mains failure) or switched (controlled by a switch in normal mode, emergency-only during mains failure).
Is it suitable for replacing twin 5ft fluorescent battens?
Yes. The 1525mm length, 600mm fixing centres and rear/end conduit entry points match most twin 5ft fluorescent batten installations. The 41W setting provides comparable output to a 2 x 58W fluorescent setup while consuming approximately 30% of the energy.
