Description

The Knightsbridge EMLED3L is a 4W LED emergency bulkhead providing 3-hour backup illumination in mains failure conditions, configured for either maintained or non-maintained operation. The fitting houses an integrated SMD LED array behind a prismatic polycarbonate diffuser, delivering 175 lumens in normal operation and 165 lumens in emergency mode at 6000K daylight white. The IP65-rated polycarbonate body withstands outdoor exposure and wet environments including covered external corridors, car parks and industrial loading bays.

Designed for exit route and emergency escape lighting in commercial, industrial and public buildings, the bulkhead mounts on walls or ceilings using a hinged gear tray that gives access to the internal battery and wiring without removing the unit from its fixings. A push-fit connector block simplifies installation, and the fitting ships with a self-adhesive legend kit allowing directional arrows or text to be applied to the diffuser face as required by BS 5266 emergency lighting standards.

The LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery chemistry provides longer cycle life and more stable discharge characteristics than traditional NiCd or NiMH cells, maintaining reliable performance across the 3-year warranty period. Maintained mode keeps the LED lit during normal operation and switches to battery on mains failure; non-maintained mode keeps the LED off until mains failure triggers battery operation. The low 60mm projection suits installation in corridors and tight ceiling spaces where deeper fittings would intrude on headroom or door swing clearances.

What is the difference between maintained and non-maintained operation?

Maintained mode keeps the LED lit continuously during normal operation and switches to battery backup during mains failure. Non-maintained mode keeps the LED off under normal conditions and only illuminates when mains power fails. Configuration is set during installation via internal wiring connections.

How long does the battery last in emergency mode?

The LiFePO4 battery provides a minimum of 3 hours illumination at 165 lumens in emergency mode. The battery recharges automatically when mains power is restored, with typical recharge time of 24 hours.

Can this be used outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 rating protects against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, making the fitting suitable for covered outdoor locations including car parks, external corridors, loading bays and covered walkways. It is not rated for full exposure to rain or submersion.

What are the legend stickers for?

The self-adhesive legend kit allows directional arrows or text (such as EXIT or emergency symbols) to be applied to the prismatic diffuser face, meeting BS 5266 requirements for emergency exit signage. The legends are visible when the LED is illuminated.
