Description

The Knightsbridge CU1610 is a 47mm single pattress box designed for the Curved Edge (CU) series of wiring accessories. Moulded from white thermoset resin, the box measures 86x86mm on the wall face with a 47mm recessed depth, providing clearance for single-gang switches, sockets and dimmers within the CU range. An integrated earth terminal and cable strain relief are built into the rear of the box.

Designed for flush-mounting in plasterboard, dot-and-dab or solid walls, the pattress box accepts single-gang accessories that require a 47mm minimum back box depth. The curved edge profile of the box matches the rounded corners of CU series cover plates, allowing the accessory faceplate to sit flush with the box edge once fitted. The cable strain relief holds cables in place during installation, reducing movement inside the back box after the accessory is connected.

The thermoset resin construction is more resistant to deformation under heat than standard PVC back boxes, making it suitable for high-load switches or sockets where the back of the accessory may warm during use. The white finish matches the standard colour of CU series white accessories and becomes invisible once the cover plate is installed. The box carries IP20 rating for indoor dry-location use and has been tested to ISO 22196:2011 for anti-microbial properties.

Frequently Asked

What accessories fit this back box?

The CU1610 is designed for single-gang accessories from Knightsbridge's Curved Edge (CU) series. Any CU series switch, socket or dimmer rated for 47mm minimum back box depth will fit. The curved edge profile of the box matches the rounded corners of CU cover plates.

What wall types can it be installed in?

The box suits flush-mounting in plasterboard (using appropriate fixings), dot-and-dab plasterboard on masonry, or solid masonry walls. The 47mm depth requires sufficient wall cavity depth or chase depth in solid walls.

What is the cable strain relief feature?

Cable strain relief holds the incoming cable in place inside the back box, preventing movement that could loosen terminal connections over time. The cable is secured by the relief before being connected to the accessory terminals.

Why thermoset resin instead of standard PVC?

Thermoset resin resists deformation under heat better than standard PVC. For high-load sockets or switches that may warm during use, thermoset back boxes maintain their shape and provide more stable long-term mounting for the accessory.
