Description

The Knightsbridge CU1700 is a 35mm deep single-gang pattress box moulded from white thermoset resin with rounded edges that match the Curved Edge (CU) series of wiring accessories. The box includes an integrated earth terminal for grounding metallic faceplates and electrical accessories, and measures 86x86mm to fit standard UK single-gang cut-outs.

Designed for surface-mount installation on solid walls, plasterboard and partition walls where recessing into the wall structure is not possible or practical, the 35mm depth provides sufficient cable entry space for switches, sockets and other wiring accessories without requiring significant wall chasing. The rounded edge profile reduces the visual impact of the box on the wall surface and aligns flush with Knightsbridge CU-series faceplates to create a continuous curved transition from wall to accessory.

The thermoset resin construction is impact-resistant and dimensionally stable across typical domestic temperature ranges, and the material carries anti-microbial properties tested to ISO 22196:2011 for applications in healthcare, hospitality and food-preparation environments. The CU1700 is designed specifically for use with Knightsbridge Curved Edge (CU) series wiring accessories. The rounded edge profile matches CU-series faceplates to create a flush, continuous transition from wall to accessory. It will physically accept other single-gang accessories but the edge profiles may not align.

Can this be used for outdoor installation?

No. The IP20 rating confirms the box is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For outdoor or damp-location installations, a weatherproof enclosure with a higher IP rating (typically IP55 or IP65) is required.

Does the earth terminal need to be connected?

Yes, if you are installing metallic faceplates or accessories that require earthing. The earth terminal should be connected to the circuit protective conductor (earth wire) to ensure safe grounding of exposed metallic parts. For plastic faceplates with no exposed metal, the earth terminal may remain unused but should still be sleeved.
