Description

The Knightsbridge 1-gang 16mm galvanised steel back box is a 73mm square flush-mounting enclosure designed for single switches, sockets and other 1-gang electrical accessories in residential, commercial and industrial installations. The 16mm recessed depth makes it suitable for shallow wall cavities, partition walls and surface-mount applications where a slim profile is required.

Constructed from 1mm galvanised steel, the box provides mechanical protection for wiring terminations and mounts behind the faceplate of switches and sockets. One mounting lug is fixed, the other adjustable, allowing the box to be levelled during installation on timber studs, plasterboard or masonry. The integral earth terminal connects protective earth continuity from incoming cable to outgoing accessories.

Oval knockouts on the side and rear panels accept standard 20mm conduit grommets and allow cable entry from multiple directions depending on the run. The galvanised steel finish resists corrosion in damp environments and provides a low-resistance earth path. The box meets EN 60670 standards for electrical accessory enclosures and carries a 25-year warranty.

What wall depth is required to fit a 16mm back box?

A minimum wall cavity or chased depth of 18-20mm is needed to accommodate the 16mm recessed depth plus a small clearance for cables behind the box. In solid walls, a 20-25mm chase is typical.
