Description

The Kinsale is a 510mm outdoor pedestal light built from black polymer with a six-sided lantern enclosure and transparent polycarbonate diffuser panels. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately) and carries an IP44 rating for protection against water splashes and dust ingress, making it suitable for porches, patios, driveways and garden pathways.

Designed for installation on gate posts, garden walls, or dedicated pedestal bases at entranceways, the Kinsale provides 360-degree light distribution through its six clear panels. The 230mm width and traditional lantern profile suit properties with period architecture, including Victorian, Edwardian and interwar builds, as well as modern homes seeking classical detailing. The pedestal design raises the light source to approximately waist height, illuminating steps, pathways and doorways without creating glare at eye level.

The black polymer construction resists corrosion in coastal environments where salt air degrades metal fittings, and withstands impact better than die-cast aluminium equivalents. The polycarbonate diffuser panels are shatter-resistant and UV-stabilised to prevent yellowing under prolonged sunlight exposure. Elstead Lighting backs the Kinsale with a 20-year warranty, reflecting the durability of the polymer and polycarbonate material combination. The black finish pairs with both dark-painted woodwork and lighter render or brick facades.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does the Kinsale take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to replicate traditional outdoor lantern lighting.

Can it be used in coastal areas?

Yes. The black polymer construction is corrosion-proof and designed specifically for coastal environments where salt air degrades metal fittings. The IP44 rating provides protection against wind-driven rain and sea spray.

How is it mounted?

The pedestal base includes pre-drilled holes for fixing to a flat surface such as a gate post, garden wall cap, or dedicated masonry pedestal. The electrical cable enters through the base and must be wired to a suitable outdoor-rated junction box or buried SWA cable.

Is it suitable for year-round outdoor use?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects against rain and dust, and the UV-stabilised polycarbonate diffuser resists degradation from sunlight. The 20-year warranty covers outdoor use in all UK weather conditions.
