Description
Our Kimitsu decorative bowl is a round, open bowl made from aluminium in a nickel finish. Its sides form an openwork lattice of irregular, coral-like openings that rise from small feet to a rim of short, upright prongs, so light passes straight through the walls. It stands 9cm high with a diameter of 20.5cm, a size that sits comfortably on a coffee table, sideboard or dining table without crowding it. The nickel colour gives it a bright silver tone that catches the light from every angle. Aluminium is a light metal, and at 0.37KG the bowl is easy to lift and move whenever you rearrange a shelf.
This is a piece for indoor rooms: a living room, a hallway console, a dining table or a bedroom chest of drawers. Because the sides are so open, it reads as a small sculpture as much as a vessel, and it looks just as good empty as it does holding a few larger pieces, such as pine cones or decorative spheres, that will not slip through the gaps. The silver tone sits happily beside grey, white and navy schemes, and it pairs well with glass and other metallic accents. It also makes a thoughtful gift, since it needs no fitting and suits almost any room.
Each Kimitsu bowl is handmade, so every piece is unique: the pattern of openings and the line of the rim differ slightly from one bowl to the next, and yours will be its own. It is not dishwasher-proof, so clean it by hand instead and keep it out of the dishwasher altogether. Set it on a flat, dry surface where its open sides can be seen from more than one angle, and it will earn its place every day.
