Description

Kernanne is a flush ceiling light that holds six bare bulbs close to the ceiling in a long, low rectangle. A black steel frame surrounds a slatted wooden panel in warm brown, and six black lampholders sit along it, staggered so the bulbs fall in two loose lines rather than one row. It is 78cm long, 25cm wide and 11.5cm high, so it covers a good stretch of ceiling without dropping into the room. Each holder takes an E27 bulb of up to 40W, and the bulbs are not included, which leaves the colour and shape of the glow to you. The IP rating is IP20, so this is a light for dry rooms indoors.

The long shape suits a ceiling above a dining table, a living room where a pendant would hang too low, or a hallway or landing that needs light spread along its length. Black metal and warm wood sit comfortably in an industrial loft scheme, and just as happily in a Scandinavian or farmhouse room. Because the light comes from six points rather than one, a long room is lit more evenly, and with clear filament bulbs the exposed holders become part of the look. It is a good answer for anyone who wants the character of bare bulbs on a ceiling too low for a hanging light.

There is no switch on the light itself, so it runs from your wall switch, at 220-240V. As a mains light that is wired permanently, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. It mounts from a slim black bracket, and the frame sits close over it, which keeps the profile low. With six holders at up to 40W each, choose bulbs of that wattage or lower. Packed, it weighs 3.631KG, so a second pair of hands helps when the time comes to lift it into place.
