Description

The Kamarne is a round LED downlight that sits recessed into the ceiling, with a brushed satin nickel trim framing a faceted reflector. The body is aluminium and it measures 8.8cm across, so from below it reads as a neat ring of soft metal rather than a bulky fitting. The LED is integrated, drawing 6W to give 450lm of warm white light at 2700K, the gentle, homely tone most of us want for relaxing. It is rated IP20, which settles where it can go: indoor rooms that stay dry, not a bathroom and not outside.

We would put it in hallways, landings, living rooms, bedrooms and studies, anywhere a clean ceiling and a calm, even glow matter more than a hanging shade. The inner ring tilts, so you can angle the light towards a picture, a bookcase or a reading chair rather than straight down at the floor. Because it is dimmable, one run of downlights can work bright for tidying and low for a quiet evening. Satin nickel suits homes with brushed metal switches, sockets or door handles, picking up that soft metallic tone without the glare of polished chrome.

It needs a 6.8cm cut-out and a recess depth of 4.2cm, so check the space above the ceiling before you plan a run of them. Spring clips grip the ceiling to hold it in place. There is no switch on the fitting itself: it is controlled from the wall switch, or from a dimmer switch. The LED is not replaceable, so there is no bulb to change. It runs on 220-240V mains and carries energy class E. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. A soft, dry cloth keeps the brushed trim looking its best.
