Description

The Kamarne LED Downlight is a square recessed light with a black aluminium body and a round inner ring around its integrated LED. It measures 8.8cm long and 8.8cm wide, so the face reads as a neat black square on the ceiling. The LED draws 6W and gives 450 lumens of warm white light at 2700K, the soft, cosy tone most people choose for living spaces. It is rated IP20, and that settles where it goes: indoors and in dry rooms only, never in a bathroom or outside.

A black downlight earns its place on a pale ceiling when you want the fitting to look like a deliberate detail, and it sits comfortably with black picture frames, door handles and switch plates. We like a short row of them along a ceiling bulkhead or down a hallway, where the warm pool of light falls across artwork and the wall beneath it. Because it is dimmable, a suitable dimmer switch lets you run it bright for everyday tasks and bring it down low in the evening. It is switched at the wall, so there is no switch on the fitting itself.

The body is aluminium, a metal that is light and does not rust, and the black finish runs right across the square face. Two blue-tipped spring clips hold it firmly in the ceiling once it is pushed into place, with a compact white housing sitting behind the face. Plan the hole before you buy: it needs a 6.8cm cut-out and 4.2cm of recess depth, so check the space above your ceiling first. It runs on 220-240V mains, has an energy class of E and weighs 0.19KG packed. Because it is wired into the mains, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download.
