Description
Our Jellicoe Candlestick is a slender gold candlestick in aluminium, with a hammered texture covering the whole surface, so the metal picks up and scatters light as a flame moves. A cup at the top holds a single candle. Below it the stem narrows, swells once, then runs long and slim down to a domed round base. It stands 25.5cm tall and measures 8.5cm across, a middle height that looks right on a dining table, a sideboard or a shelf.
This is a candlestick for indoor rooms where you want warmth without fuss. On a dining table it brings a glow to supper; on a mantelpiece or a windowsill it catches the evening light, and on a hallway console it gives a plain surface a touch of polish. The gold works with warm woods, cream walls and deep greens and blues, and the hammered surface gives it plenty of character that sits as happily in a period sitting room as in a modern flat. Stand it alone, or group it with candlesticks you already own at different heights for a more generous arrangement along a table or a shelf.
Aluminium is a light metal that does not rust, so for all its height this candlestick weighs just 0.37KG. The hammered texture runs from the rim of the cup down over the stem and the domed base, and the gold has a warm, bright sheen that looks just as good in daylight as by candlelight. Being so light, it lifts off the table easily when you clear the plates and moves from room to room as often as you like, so it earns its place in every season.
