IRS3xAAA Battery LED Step Light with PIR Sensor - White

The IRS3xAAA is a compact LED step light with a built-in PIR motion sensor, giving a low-level guiding glow exactly where a stairway or threshold needs marking. It draws just 0.3W to deliver 10 lumens of neutral-white light at 4000K, with an efficiency of 33 lm/W. Across the Atlantic this small fitting answers the same brief as a battery stair light, switching on automatically as someone approaches and fading out once the area is clear. Running on 3 x 1.5V AAA cells, it needs no wiring or transformer, so it can sit wherever a mains feed would be awkward.

Its job is marking and guidance rather than lighting a whole room, so coverage is best judged by where the soft pool of light falls: along a stair tread, beside a doorway, or inside a cupboard. The PIR triggers as movement is detected, making it well suited to landings, hallway skirtings, under-cabinet recesses and shelved storage. With an IP54 rating it copes with splashes and sheltered spots such as a porch or carport, though it should be kept clear of fully exposed positions, direct water jets or submersion. The neutral 4000K tone reads cleanly without the yellow cast of warmer step lights.

The body is moulded plastic in a white finish, measuring 28 x 84 x 73 mm and weighing only 66 g, light enough to mount without heavy fixings. It is wall mounted and battery powered, so the three AAA cells supply everything and there is no driver or external supply to specify. Does it need a 12V transformer or driver?

No. The IRS3xAAA runs on 3 x 1.5V AAA batteries, so there is no transformer or external driver to wire in. This makes it simple to fit in spots with no mains supply, such as inside a cupboard or along a staircase.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

It carries an IP54 rating, so it handles splashes and sheltered outdoor positions like a porch or carport. It should be kept out of fully exposed locations, direct water jets or any submersion.

How does the PIR sensor work?

The built-in PIR detects movement nearby and switches the light on automatically, then turns it off once the area is clear. This conserves the batteries and means no manual switching as you pass a step or doorway.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the white plastic body and the lens with a soft, slightly damp cloth, avoiding harsh solvents. Take care not to dislodge the fitting, and clean the lens periodically so the 10 lumen output stays bright and clear.
