Description

The Knightsbridge IP66 2 Gang RCD Outdoor Socket Kit provides a complete weatherproof power installation for external walls, combining a 13A double-pole switched socket in an IP66-rated polycarbonate housing with a 3-metre length of H07RN-F 1.5mm outdoor cable, a 20mm IP66 cable gland, and a re-wireable RCD safety plug. The IP66 rating protects the internal components against heavy rain and dust ingress, allowing the socket to remain operational in exposed outdoor locations.

Designed for residential gardens, commercial outdoor areas, and light industrial applications, the kit suits powering lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, pressure washers, outdoor heaters, festoon lighting, and other external electrical equipment. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when the socket is turned off, and the RCD plug provides additional earth-leakage protection for tools and appliances. A neon indicator on the enclosure confirms when the socket is live.

The black polycarbonate housing measures 170.5mm wide by 153.5mm high with an 84mm projection from the wall, providing sufficient internal depth for cable terminations and the dual-gang socket mechanism. The enclosure includes an earth terminal for bonding the socket back box to the supply earth, and the hinged weatherproof lid closes over the outlet apertures when the socket is not in use. The 3m cable length allows the kit to be wired back to an indoor consumer unit or garage distribution board without requiring additional cable runs.

Installation requires fixing the housing to an external wall with masonry plugs and screws, running the cable back to the supply point, and terminating the cable into the RCD plug. The cable gland provides an IP66 seal where the cable enters the housing, and the polycarbonate construction resists UV degradation and impact damage. The kit is supplied as Class I earthed equipment, requiring connection to a protective earth conductor.

What does IP66 mean?

IP66 provides protection against powerful water jets from any direction and complete protection against dust ingress. The socket can be installed in exposed outdoor locations subject to heavy rain, though it should not be submerged or installed where water can pool inside the enclosure.

What's included in the kit?

The kit includes the 2-gang socket in polycarbonate housing, 3 metres of H07RN-F 1.5mm outdoor-grade cable, a 20mm IP66 cable gland, and a re-wireable RCD safety plug. Fixing screws and masonry plugs are not included.

Does the RCD plug need to be used?

The RCD plug provides additional earth-leakage protection for the circuit and is strongly recommended for outdoor installations. It should be wired into an indoor socket or spur connection point that is itself protected by the consumer unit's main RCD or RCBO.

Can the cable be extended?

The 3m cable can be extended using weatherproof junction boxes rated for outdoor use, or the cable can be wired into an indoor connection point and a longer cable run installed from that point to the consumer unit. Any outdoor cable joints must be IP-rated and installed inside a suitable enclosure.
