Description

The Knightsbridge IP65 fire-rated fixed GU10 downlight combines bathroom-grade water resistance with 30/60/90-minute fire protection behind a white pressed-steel bezel. The IP65 rating seals the fitting from below against water jets and dust ingress, making it compliant for use in bathroom zones 1 and 2, while the fire rating meets Building Regulations for ceiling penetrations in solid timber, web-joist and I-joist constructions.

Designed for new builds and retrofit installation, the downlight requires a 69mm cut-out diameter and a minimum ceiling void depth of 167mm to accommodate the rear housing and fire hood. Push-fit terminals accept loop-in/loop-out wiring without requiring a screwdriver, speeding installation across multiple fittings. The unit accepts any GU10 halogen or LED bulb up to 35W (sold separately), with dimming capability dependent on the bulb specification rather than the fitting.

The white finish on the 84mm diameter bezel sits flush with the ceiling surface, projecting only 5mm below the plasterboard or render line once installed. The pressed-steel construction handles the heat dissipation from higher-wattage halogen bulbs, though the fitting also carries IC insulation-contact rating when paired with LED bulbs up to 6W, allowing loft insulation to be packed around the housing without creating a fire risk. Fire certification covers 30-minute protection in web-joist and Staircraft I-joist installations, and extends to 60 and 90 minutes in solid timber ceilings depending on joist depth and specification.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP65 rating from below makes the fitting compliant for bathroom zones 1 and 2, including directly above a bath or inside a shower enclosure where water jets are present. The IP20 rating from above means the top of the fitting in the ceiling void is not protected against water ingress, so avoid installation directly below an unlined loft tank or leak-prone area.

What ceiling void depth is required?

A minimum void depth of 167mm is needed to accommodate the rear housing and fire hood. The recessed depth of the fitting body itself is 117mm, with the additional 50mm required for the fire protection hood that sits above the housing in the void.

Does it come with a GU10 bulb?

No, the bulb is sold separately. The fitting accepts any GU10 halogen or LED bulb up to 35W. Most installations use a 5-7W LED GU10 in warm white (2700K-3000K) for general bathroom or kitchen lighting.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming depends on the GU10 bulb you fit, not the downlight housing. If you pair the fitting with a dimmable GU10 LED and a compatible dimmer switch, the installation will dim. Non-dimmable bulbs will not respond to a dimmer even if the fitting itself is capable of handling the load.
