Description

An outdoor cushion, 45cm by 45cm, in grey. At 45cm wide it is a little narrower than a standard interior door. A cushion works hardest where people actually sit. On a bed it is display and comes off at night; on a sofa or a window seat it is used every day, and that difference should decide how much you spend and which fabric you choose.

Cool tones settle beside grey, blue and black without any effort. Against a warm timber they need something to mediate, or the two simply sit next to each other. The practical case for polyester is maintenance: colour stays put, the weave does not relax, and a spill sits on the surface long enough to be caught.

Filling decides how it ages. Feather flattens and needs plumping but recovers its shape indefinitely; a synthetic fill holds its shape without attention and eventually goes hard. Neither is better — they suit different amounts of patience.

It will last longer stored or covered over winter than left out in it.
