Hydra LED Round Surface Downlight 15W 3000K - Matt Gold

The Hydra is a 176mm diameter surface-mounted LED downlight with an integrated 15W 3000K LED and a matt gold aluminium housing. The unit sits 90mm proud of the ceiling and casts a 120° beam angle downwards, providing broad wash light across a room without the need for recessed installation. The IP44 rating means the fitting is protected against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and covered outdoor areas.

Designed for situations where recessed downlights cannot be installed due to ceiling construction or depth constraints, the Hydra mounts directly to the ceiling surface using a backplate concealed inside the housing. The 15W integrated LED delivers warm white light at 3000K, matching the colour temperature of halogen bulbs and creating a comfortable ambient glow in living rooms, hallways, dining areas and hospitality reception spaces. The high CRI rating ensures colours appear accurate under the light, which is useful in spaces where interior finishes or artwork need to be rendered faithfully.

The matt gold finish is a low-sheen brushed aluminium that softens reflections and pairs with both contemporary and classical interiors. The cylindrical profile is clean-edged with no visible fixings once installed, and the shallow 90mm projection suits standard 2.4m ceiling heights without the fitting feeling obtrusive. The aluminium construction provides durability and heat dissipation for the integrated LED, which is non-replaceable but carries a 3-year warranty from Maytoni.

Product Manual

Can the Hydra be used in a bathroom?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for bathroom zone 2 (outside the immediate shower enclosure). Always confirm zone requirements with your electrician before installation.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The 15W LED is integrated into the fitting and cannot be replaced. The LED carries a 3-year warranty from Maytoni and is rated for approximately 30,000 hours of operation, which equates to around 10 years at 8 hours per day.

What ceiling construction is needed?

The Hydra is a surface-mounted fitting, so it does not require a recessed void or ceiling cavity. It mounts directly to a solid ceiling surface using the concealed backplate. The mains wiring enters through a cable entry point on the rear of the housing.

What beam angle does it provide?

The 120° beam angle provides broad, even light distribution across a room. At a typical 2.4m ceiling height, one Hydra downlight will illuminate a circular area approximately 4-5m in diameter, depending on required lux levels.
