Description

The Hoop is an 85mm diameter surface-mounted downlight with a white powder-coated aluminium drum body and a frosted plastic diffuser. The fitting accepts a GX53 bulb up to 15W (sold separately) and projects 50mm from the ceiling surface, making it suitable for rooms with low ceiling heights where recessed downlights would require too much plenum depth.

Designed for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and utility rooms in residential and commercial settings, the Hoop mounts directly to a standard UK ceiling rose or junction box without the need to cut into the ceiling structure. The white finish allows it to sit flush against white or light-painted ceilings with minimal visual disruption, while the frosted diffuser softens the light output and reduces glare when viewed from typical standing and seated eye levels.

The aluminium drum body provides structural rigidity and heat dissipation for the GX53 bulb, while the plastic diffuser on the underside is replaceable if damaged. The IP20 rating limits the fitting to dry indoor areas only — it is not suitable for shower zones, outdoor use, or locations exposed to direct water contact. The compact 85mm diameter allows multiple fittings to be spaced closely for even coverage in narrow corridors or galley kitchens.

Can this be installed in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means it is suitable only for dry indoor areas away from direct water contact. It cannot be installed in shower zones or anywhere exposed to splashing. For bathroom installation it would need to be positioned well away from baths, showers and basin splash zones.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting uses a GX53 bulb up to 15W, sold separately. GX53 bulbs are flat disc-shaped bulbs with two pins, typically available in LED format at 6W-11W output. Choose warm white (2700K-3000K) for residential spaces or cool white (4000K) for task-focused areas.

Does it work with low ceilings?

Yes. The 50mm projection from the ceiling makes it well-suited to rooms with ceiling heights under 2.4m where recessed downlights would require plenum space that does not exist. The shallow profile reduces the risk of head contact in low-ceiling hallways and attic conversions.

How is it fitted?

The downlight surface-mounts to a standard ceiling rose or junction box using the fixing points on the back of the aluminium drum. No cutting into the ceiling structure is required, making it suitable for installation in solid ceilings, plasterboard with insufficient void depth, and situations where cutting a recessed aperture is not practical.
