Description

The Hoop is an 8.5cm diameter surface-mounted downlight with a matt black aluminium cylinder housing and a recessed GX53 bulb fitting. The cylindrical body sits 5cm proud of the ceiling, making it one of the lower-profile surface-mounted downlights available for rooms where recessed fittings cannot be installed due to shallow ceiling voids or concrete slab construction.

Designed for hallways, kitchen task lighting over worktops, and bathroom zones outside shower enclosures (IP20 rating limits use to dry areas), the Hoop mounts directly to a ceiling rose or junction box and requires no cut-out or void access. The GX53 bulb base takes low-profile LED modules up to 15W, which sit flush with or slightly recessed into the downlight aperture rather than protruding below the housing. This keeps the overall projection to 5cm and prevents glare at eye level in low-ceiling spaces.

The matt black finish on the aluminium housing absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so the downlight itself recedes visually once installed on a dark or mid-tone ceiling. The plastic rear section houses the lamp holder and wiring terminals, with a simple two-screw fixing to a standard ceiling rose. Multiple Hoop downlights can be spaced 1.2-1.5m apart to provide even general lighting across a hallway or kitchen without the visual clutter of larger recessed downlight trims.

The IP20 rating limits the Hoop to dry areas only. It can be used in a bathroom outside the defined shower or bath zones (typically 60cm or more away from any water source), but not directly above a bath or within a shower enclosure where IP44 or IP65 rated fittings are required.

What bulb does it take?

The Hoop takes a GX53 bulb up to 15W. GX53 bulbs are low-profile disc-shaped LED modules that twist-lock into the fitting. They are sold separately and typically available in 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white.

Can it be fitted to a low ceiling?

Yes. The 5cm projection makes the Hoop one of the most compact surface-mounted downlights available, suitable for ceiling heights as low as 2.1m without creating a head-strike hazard in circulation areas.

Is the light dimmable?
