Description
The Kichler Hone is a 330mm outdoor wall lantern built around a clear cylindrical glass body framed by four vertical black metal supports. A brass-finished E27 socket sits at the base of the glass cylinder, visible through the clear glass and providing a warm metallic accent against the textured black frame. The lantern takes a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing the choice of filament, LED or halogen light source depending on the ambiance needed.
Designed for sheltered outdoor positions, the Hone carries an IP44 rating against rain and moisture when mounted vertically on a wall. The compact footprint suits narrow entryways, covered porches, garden walls and patio corners where a larger lantern would overwhelm the space. The 163mm projection from the wall and 140mm width work well in pairs flanking a door or used singly on a side elevation. The black composite frame is salt-air resistant, making it suitable for coastal properties without the corrosion issues of ferrous metals.
The four-bar vertical frame gives the lantern a geometric structure that pairs well with contemporary and transitional exteriors, while the brass socket detail and clear glass reference traditional carriage lantern forms without replicating them. The clear glass allows the full bulb to be visible, so choosing a decorative filament bulb will make the internal light source part of the fitting's appearance when lit. The textured black finish softens reflections in daylight and gives depth to the frame when viewed at an angle.

Frequently Asked
What IP rating does the Hone carry?
The Hone is IP44 rated, protecting against splashing water from any direction. This makes it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as covered porches, under eaves, or recessed entryways. It should not be used in fully exposed positions where driving rain can reach it directly.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. The clear glass makes the bulb fully visible, so decorative filament bulbs work well. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K.
Can it be installed in coastal locations?
Yes. The textured black frame is made from a composite material that resists salt-air corrosion better than ferrous metals. The brass socket detail is also corrosion-resistant. Regular rinsing with fresh water will extend the finish life in coastal installations.
What mounting height is recommended?
For flanking a front door, mount the centre of the lantern at 1600-1800mm from ground level. For pathway or corner installations, 1400-1600mm typically provides good light distribution without glare at eye level.
