Holborn 2 Light Outdoor Wall Lantern - Polished Chrome

The Holborn is a two-light outdoor wall lantern built from solid brass with a polished chrome finish, housing two E14 candle bulbs behind clear flat glass panels in a rectangular frame. The frame measures approximately 240mm high by 180mm wide, with a 130mm projection from the wall, forming a box lantern silhouette typical of Georgian door lighting.

Designed for exterior walls flanking front doors, garage entrances and covered porches, the Holborn carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashing water and small solid objects. This makes it suitable for positions under eaves or canopies where direct rainfall is deflected, but not for fully exposed open walls or horizontal rain-driven surfaces. The clear glass panels allow the bulb flame shape to remain visible, casting candle-like light onto brickwork and pathways.

The polished chrome plating gives a bright, mirror-like finish that reflects daylight and contrasts sharply with painted render, brick or timber cladding. The solid brass construction underneath the chrome provides corrosion resistance in coastal and humid environments, and the substantial weight of the casting (approximately 1.8kg) gives the fitting a quality feel when mounted. The top panel of the lantern features a perforated vent grille to allow heat from the bulbs to escape without trapping moisture inside the glass enclosure.

What bulbs does the Holborn take?

The lantern takes two E14 small Edison screw candle bulbs, up to 40W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit warm-white LED candle bulbs at 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional flame-like appearance.

Is it suitable for exposed outdoor walls?

The IP44 rating protects against splashing water and dust, making it suitable for positions under eaves, canopies or porch ceilings. It is not rated for fully exposed walls subject to horizontal wind-driven rain or direct overhead weather.

How is it mounted to the wall?

The lantern mounts via a rectangular backplate with two fixing points, typically spaced 150mm apart vertically. The backplate conceals the cable entry point and the mains connection is made inside a standard outdoor junction box behind the wall surface.

What maintenance does the polished chrome finish need?

Polished chrome can be wiped with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and water marks. For coastal or industrial environments, periodic cleaning prevents salt or pollutant build-up that can dull the finish over time. Avoid abrasive cleaners that scratch the chrome plating.
