Description

The Holborn is a 2-light flush ceiling light in a verdigris finish with clear bevelled glass panels on all four sides, designed for covered outdoor installation. The solid brass frame carries an IP44 rating, allowing it to be installed in porches, covered terraces and carriage entrances where the fitting is sheltered from direct rainfall but exposed to moisture and dust. Each of the two E27 bulb holders (bulbs sold separately) sits inside the glass enclosure, casting light through the bevelled edges.

Designed for period properties, barn conversions and traditional-style homes, the Holborn mounts flush to the ceiling with a minimal 30cm square footprint that suits entrance porches and low-height covered walkways where a pendant would hang too low. The verdigris finish replicates the natural patina that forms on aged copper, giving the fitting an antique appearance straight from the box rather than requiring decades of weathering. The bevelled glass adds a decorative edge detail while allowing full light transmission from the bulbs inside.

The solid brass construction provides durability in outdoor environments where moisture and temperature fluctuations would corrode cheaper zinc or aluminium fittings. The verdigris finish is applied over the brass and develops further character over time when exposed to outdoor conditions, deepening the blue-green tones. The four-panel glass enclosure gives 360-degree light distribution, making the fitting suitable for central ceiling positions in porches where even light spread is needed rather than directional illumination.

Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?

The IP44 rating protects against dust and water splashing, but the fitting should be installed under a roof overhang, porch canopy or similar shelter. It is not rated for direct rainfall or full-weather exposure. Covered terraces, carriage entrances and entrance porches with roof coverage are suitable locations.

What bulbs does it take?

The Holborn takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, sold separately. Most installations pair this with warm-white LED filament bulbs between 4-7W and 2200K-2700K to match the traditional aesthetic of the verdigris frame and bevelled glass.

Does the verdigris finish change over time?

Yes. The applied verdigris finish replicates aged copper patina and will continue to develop character when exposed to outdoor moisture and temperature changes. The blue-green tones may deepen slightly over the first year of installation, which is a natural feature of the finish rather than deterioration.

What ceiling height is needed?

The flush-mount design projects approximately 150-180mm from the ceiling. This makes it suitable for low-ceiling porches and covered walkways where a hanging pendant would sit too low for head clearance.
