Description

The Holborn is a small outdoor wall lantern with a rectangular polished chrome frame enclosing clear glass panels on four sides, holding a single E14 candle bulb (sold separately). The frame is constructed from solid brass, plated in polished chrome to resist corrosion, and the lantern sits on two forward-facing mounting feet that hold it 50mm proud of the wall.

Designed for entrance porches, side doors, patio walls and garden paths, the Holborn provides directed downward and outward light through the clear glass while the reflective chrome frame bounces additional light back towards the wall. The IP44 rating protects the fitting from rain and dust in exposed positions, making it suitable for uncovered external walls in all-weather conditions. The rectangular profile and vertical proportion suit doorways and narrow wall sections better than square or circular lanterns.

The polished chrome finish is a modern alternative to the traditional black or bronze Georgian lantern, pairing well with contemporary front doors, brushed stainless ironmongery and grey or white-painted render. The clear glass maximises light output compared to frosted or seeded alternatives, and the E14 fitting accepts LED candle bulbs from 3-6W to match the brightness needed for the entrance size.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a single E14 small Edison screw candle bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users choose a 4-6W LED candle bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) for entrance lighting.

Can it be used in exposed positions?

Yes. The IP44 rating means the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction. It can be used on uncovered external walls exposed to rain.

How far does it project from the wall?

The lantern sits on two mounting feet that hold the frame approximately 50mm forward of the wall surface. Total projection including the depth of the lantern body is approximately 120-150mm depending on the specific model size.

Is the chrome finish prone to corrosion?

The polished chrome is plated over solid brass, which provides better corrosion resistance than chrome over steel. Regular cleaning with a soft damp cloth removes salt deposits in coastal areas and maintains the reflective finish.
