Highland Cows Welcome Slim Wooden Mantle Plaque 20cm - Blue

This slim wooden plaque carries a cheeky welcome for the home, reading "Highland Cows welcome, everyone else by appointment" in white lettering across a soft periwinkle blue background. At the right-hand end, a shaggy russet Highland cow peers out from under pale curved horns, with a little yellow flower caught in its fringe, while a meadow of wildflowers runs along the lower edge: pink blooms, yellow buttercups, daisies and lacy white flower heads. It is a neat rectangle, 20cm across, 4cm tall and 1cm deep, so it brings plenty of character to a small space without crowding it.

We think it looks happiest standing on a mantelpiece or along a bookshelf, where its long, low shape fits neatly into a narrow spot. The wording gives it a playful edge, a gentle joke about preferring cattle to callers, so it raises a smile from anyone who reads it on the way past. The soft blue and the meadow colours sit easily with country and cottage schemes, and the Highland cow adds a warm, rustic note to a living room, a snug or a study.

The plaque is made of wood, with the blue background, lettering, cow and flowers covering its front face and the edges left plain. It stands upright on its own on a flat surface, so there is nothing to fix to the wall and you can move it from shelf to mantelpiece whenever you fancy a change. To keep it looking its best, dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from water and damp, as you would with any wooden decoration. It makes a cheerful small gift that is easy to wrap, and on a shelf of its own it gives a room a friendly, homely welcome that never takes itself too seriously.
