Description

The Helixis is a 90mm square surface-mounted outdoor downlight built from powder-coated die-cast aluminium in a mid-grey finish, with a frosted tempered glass diffuser at the base. The fitting takes a single GU10 bulb (sold separately) and carries an IP54 rating, protecting against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction.

Designed for external installation on patios, covered porches, pathway canopies, and building entrances, the Helixis mounts directly to a solid soffit or ceiling surface without recessing. The 90mm footprint suits smaller areas where a compact downlight is needed, and the surface-mount format avoids the need to cut ceiling voids or install back boxes. The frosted glass diffuser softens the light spread from the GU10 bulb, reducing direct glare when viewed from below.

The die-cast aluminium construction provides structural integrity in outdoor conditions, and the powder-coated grey finish resists corrosion and UV fading over time. The IP54 rating makes the fitting suitable for locations with exposure to rain splashes and coastal moisture, though it is not rated for submersion or direct water jets. What bulb does it take and is one included?

The Helixis takes a single GU10 bulb with a maximum wattage determined by the bulb's heat output and the fitting's ventilation. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 5-7W GU10 LED in either 3000K warm white or 4000K neutral white.

Can it be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?

The IP54 rating protects against dust and water splashes, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas such as patios, porches, and building entrances with some overhead shelter. It is not rated for submersion or direct water jets, so avoid installation where the fitting would be directly exposed to heavy rain or washing.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself is dimmable. To achieve dimming, you need a dimmable GU10 bulb and a compatible dimmer on the mains circuit. Standard non-dimmable GU10 bulbs will not dim even if the fitting is on a dimmer circuit.

How is it mounted?

The Helixis is surface-mounted, fixing directly to a solid soffit or ceiling surface with screws through the rear of the aluminium housing. No recess or back box is required. The fitting requires a standard 230V mains connection terminated inside the housing.
