Description

The Helixis is a 90mm square surface-mounted outdoor downlight with a matt black powder-coated die-cast aluminium body and a frosted transparent tempered glass diffuser covering the downward-facing GU10 bulb fitting. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas including porches, canopies, and sheltered wall positions.

Designed as a compact fixed downlight for entrances, pathways and perimeter lighting, the Helixis mounts directly onto external wall or soffit surfaces without requiring recessed installation. The 90mm square footprint keeps the fitting unobtrusive when mounted in multiples along a wall run or at regular intervals under eaves. The frosted glass diffuses the GU10 beam pattern, reducing hard shadows and spreading light more evenly across the area below the fitting.

The die-cast aluminium construction gives the fitting a solid 0.6kg weight and better heat dissipation than stamped steel or plastic alternatives, helping to extend the life of LED GU10 bulbs fitted inside. The matt black finish provides a low-profile appearance against most external wall colours and resists UV degradation better than gloss black finishes. The downlight accepts any standard GU10 bulb up to 50W (sold separately) and is dimmable when paired with compatible GU10 LED bulbs and external dimmer systems.

Is the Helixis suitable for fully exposed outdoor positions?

The IP54 rating protects against dust and water splashes, making it suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches, canopies and soffits. It is not designed for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or submersion. For exposed wall positions consider an IP65-rated fitting.

What bulb does it take and is it included?

The fitting takes one standard GU10 bulb up to 50W, sold separately. Most installations use a 5-7W LED GU10 bulb in warm white (2700K-3000K) for outdoor path and entrance lighting.

Is it dimmable?

The fitting itself supports dimming when paired with dimmable GU10 LED bulbs and a compatible external dimmer system. Not all GU10 LEDs dim smoothly, so check bulb compatibility before purchase if dimming is required.

How is it mounted?

The Helixis surface-mounts directly onto external wall or soffit surfaces using two fixing screws through the base plate. No recessed back box is required. The electrical connection is made inside the fitting before the glass diffuser is secured.
