Description

The Helixis is a 150mm cube-shaped outdoor downlight surface-mounted on ceilings or soffits, cast from die-cast aluminium with a matt black powder-coated finish. A frosted tempered glass diffuser at the base houses a single GU10 bulb (sold separately), directing light downward for path lighting, entrance canopies, porch ceilings and covered outdoor areas. The IP54 rating protects the fitting against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction.

Designed for exterior installation where recessed downlights cannot be used due to shallow ceiling voids or solid concrete soffits, the Helixis mounts directly onto the surface with visible fixings concealed by the 150mm square canopy. The frosted glass diffuser softens the GU10 beam, reducing glare while maintaining sufficient brightness for safe navigation along walkways, steps and building perimeters. Dimmable when paired with a compatible GU10 LED and external dimmer.

The die-cast aluminium body withstands outdoor temperature cycling and UV exposure without warping or surface degradation. The matt black finish absorbs rather than reflects daylight, making the fitting visually recessive on dark soffits and blending into contemporary black-framed architecture. The 150mm projection from the ceiling gives enough clearance for lamp replacement without removing the entire fitting. What GU10 bulb does it take?

The Helixis accepts any standard GU10 bulb. For outdoor use, a 5-7W GU10 LED in 3000K warm white is typical. Bulbs are sold separately. The fitting is dimmable when paired with a dimmable GU10 LED and compatible dimmer on the circuit.

Can it be used in fully exposed locations?

The IP54 rating protects against dust and water splashes but not direct jets or submersion. The Helixis is suitable for covered porches, canopies, soffits and building overhangs. For fully exposed locations subject to driving rain, an IP65-rated fitting is recommended.

How is it mounted?

The fitting surface-mounts onto the ceiling or soffit with fixings through the rear canopy. A 20mm conduit entry point is provided on the rear or side of the body for cable entry. The glass diffuser is removable for lamp replacement without dismounting the entire fitting.

What beam angle does it produce?

The beam angle depends on the GU10 bulb fitted. Most GU10 LEDs are available in 36-degree spot or 60-degree flood configurations. The frosted glass diffuser softens the edge of the beam regardless of bulb choice, reducing hard shadows on the ground below.
