Description
This helicopter mantel clock turns an everyday timepiece into a little aircraft for the shelf. Made from metal, it has a rounded red cabin with the clock face set into its side, a long black tail boom finished with a tail rotor, slim rotor blades across the top and a pair of black landing skids underneath. The dial is a soft cream with bold black Arabic numerals, black hands and a small gold centre, so the time reads clearly from across the room. It stands 19.5cm tall, 37cm wide and 22.5cm deep.
At 37cm wide it wants a mantelpiece, a deep shelf or a sideboard with a little room either side. Because it stands on its own skids, it needs no wall fixing at all. We like it in a bedroom, where the clear numerals make it easy to check the time from the pillow, and it sits just as happily on a study bookcase or a home office desk. The red and black colouring works well against white, grey or natural wood, and it brings a cheerful touch of character to an aviation-themed corner, a hallway console or any room that could use something a little playful.
The body, tail and skids are all metal, with the red cabin set off by the black tail boom and skids. The back is finished in black, with a panel that holds the clock movement. To keep it looking its best, dust it with a soft dry cloth and keep it away from damp, which is kind to both the metal and the movement. Set it at the centre of a mantelpiece where the tail can stretch out, or give it as a cheerful gift that brings a smile every time someone checks the hour.
