This is a long, plain rectangle in satin black, giving a row of pendants one shared plane overhead instead of a scatter of separate ceiling points. The face is blank, with no openings formed in it, so the spacing of the drops is set to suit the room rather than fixed at the factory. At around 1.1m long and 40cm across, it reads as a deliberate band above a table rather than a small disc, and the build is shallow enough to stay quiet.

We reach for it where a scheme calls for a line of drops and the ceiling above would otherwise look cluttered. Over a dining table it is the tidiest way to hold a set of shades on one axis; over a kitchen island or a long bar counter it does the same job, and the black keeps the eye on the pendants rather than on the plate. It suits anyone building a pendant arrangement from parts, and it works as well in a café or a studio as it does at home.

The satin black has a low sheen that takes fingerprints far less readily than a polished finish, and it sits comfortably alongside black flex and dark metal shades.
