This gold figurine of Hedwig, the owl from the Harry Potter stories, sits perched on a stack of four old books, as if she has just landed. Every feather is picked out in fine relief, from the soft ruff around her face to the long, layered wings folded at her sides, and her sharp, watchful eyes give her plenty of character. The books beneath her carry their own detail, with stars, small symbols and banded spines down one side and ridged page edges along the others.
