Description

The Halmstad Large Bollard is an 850mm outdoor post light built from treated pine timber and galvanised steel, with an opal polycarbonate diffuser at the top that houses an E27 bulb (sold separately, up to 60W). The timber column provides the main structure, with steel cap, base and horizontal guard bars wrapping the diffuser. The bollard is rated IP65 for outdoor installation in exposed locations including coastal areas.

Designed for pathway lighting, driveway edges and garden borders where a taller post is needed to project light above low planting, the 850mm height gives sufficient visibility without overwhelming smaller residential plots. The 120mm square footprint anchors into concrete or gravel bases, with the weight concentrated in the steel base plate. The opal diffuser spreads light in 360 degrees, providing wayfinding illumination rather than focused downlighting.

The treated pine shows natural grain variation and will weather to a silver-grey patina over time unless treated with wood oil or stain. The galvanised steel resists corrosion in wet and coastal environments, maintaining structural integrity where untreated steel would fail. The E27 socket accepts standard LED, halogen or CFL bulbs, allowing choice of colour temperature and wattage to suit the required brightness and running cost — most installations use 6-10W warm LED for pathway visibility without glare.

What bulb should I use?

The bollard takes a standard E27 bulb up to 60W. Most users install a 6-10W warm LED (2700K-3000K) for pathway lighting, which provides sufficient visibility without glare and keeps running costs low.

How is it installed?

The 120mm square base plate is typically set into a concrete footing or fixed to a compacted gravel base using ground anchors. The electrical cable runs up through the timber column to the E27 lampholder at the top. Installation requires a qualified electrician.

Will the wood weather over time?

Yes. The treated pine will naturally weather to a silver-grey patina when exposed to sunlight and rain. This is normal for outdoor timber. If you prefer to retain the original honey-toned wood colour, treat the bollard annually with an exterior wood oil or stain.

Is the IP65 rating suitable for coastal locations?

Yes. IP65 indicates full dust protection and protection against water jets from any direction, making the bollard suitable for exposed and coastal environments. The galvanised steel resists corrosion in salt air.
